Energy saving solutions: analyze how energy is spent and provide alternatives that will save costs both onshore and at sea.
- Investigating the human element: the culture of energy use
- Examining Ship Systems
- Benefitting from Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP)
- Exploring waste heat conversion and wind energy
- Streamlining Maintenance
The biggest potential of energy saving relates to the handling of the ship, such as whether routing and considerations of sea currents. The ship performance (EEOI) is calculated and the results compared with the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI). The (EEDI) was made mandatory for new ships and the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) for all ships at MEPC 62 (July 2011).
